Wilkinson Terrace

Firstly those five old cottages or tenements with the outbuildings thereto belonging situate in the township of Stutton in the Parish of Tadcaster in the said county of York in the occupation of E.BURGESS, Robert BURDSELL, Mary LUNNELY, Jeremiah TAYLOR and William MARSHALL and also that building lying on the southerly side of the above mentioned premises the ground floor being occupied as a cottage and the upper floor as a Preaching Room and therein the occupation of Hannah BIRDSELL also all those six new cottages lying on the Westerly side of an adjoining the above mentioned five old cottages and recently erected by the said Samuel WILKINSON with the outbuildings thereto belonging.
Around this time the properties were renamed Wilkinson Terrace, prior to the extension of the terrace the houses had been known, simply, as cottages at Stutton. The exact date of the numbering is unclear but the old stone terrace cottages became numbers 1-5, the new brick houses 6-11 and the 'Chapel' cottage number 12.

An importance map from a conveyance dated 30th September 1874 of adjacent land. It shows the Cottage and Terracae just prior to the construction of numbers 6-11 Wilkinson Terrace.
The cottage itself was altered in the 1870/80s with a single storey extension added on the western end. In later years the flat roof of the extension was used as a balcony with views of the surrounding countryside.
