Teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom

Following his death the property passed to father and son John and Samuel Wilkinson Junior. John was a Auctioner born at Seacroft but living in Osset and his son Samuel was a Cloth Manufacturer and Commercial Traveller from Leeds. John was the son of Michael Coulson's sister Mary who married Samuel Wilkinson Senior. Michael Coulson had no children of his own. John Wilkinson died in 1885 and Samuel Junior took full control of the property.
The cottage was rented out and in 1871 it is beleived the occupiers were William Birdsall, a farm labourer, who had brought up a large family in the village and his wife Hannah.

1871 Census Return, Cottage highlighted Red
On the 24th October 1873 William Birdsall died of 'old age' at Stutton (likely in the cottage) and Hannah lived in the cottage alone.
